MAGiS 08 offers young adults the opportunity to experience World Youth Day as a spiritual journey; to develop a sense of a belonging to a community engaged in a quest for an engagement with God and the world around them, and to be apart of something truly special.
This program runs from 5 July to 20 July 2008; offering a week of ‘Experiments,’ an Ignation Gathering in Sydney and the World Youth Day week of activities. The MAGiS 08 Experiments, which take place from 5 – 11 July, challenge people to engage radically with the life of Jesus creatively, through service and pilgrimage, and to challenge onself and emerge into the world of the experiment.
Walking the streets with Australia’s First Saint, is one such experiment taking place in Melbourne in which you are called to journey into the life and mission of Australia’s first Saint, Blessed Mary MacKillop and discover a uniquely Australian path to God. In this experiment you will be immersed in Mary’s story; you’ll walk the same sacred ground she once did and join in ministries carried out in her spirit of hospitality and love. Such ministries include sheltering the homeless and caring for disadvantaged children through MacKillop Family Services and caring for the aged. In hearing her narrative, and participating in her works you’ll be called upon to respond creatively to her spiritual journey and in so doing bring light into your own search for ‘something more.’
